Meeting an old friend

Fireteam Crimson were removing their gear as they finished another War Game exercise, the game was Capture the Flag and they practically dominated the game.

“Now that was a good match” Dylan said as he pulled the holo-makers off his under armor.

“Normally I hate Capture the Flag, but that game was good” Anastasia added.

“Ha, did you see when I took those guards out with their own flag?” Raimundo asked “I gotta ask Roland for that Copy.”

“Yeah, and Ana was awesome, getting that double-headshot with the Sniper Rifle” Evelyn said.

“Well, your tip about how those two always ran while alternating zig-zags made that shot possible.” Ana said, “Good intel, hot-pocket.”

“Crimson” a voice called to them, they stood in attention as they recognized the voice of their CO, Sarah Palmer. “Another Victory in the War games, you make me damn proud.” She said as  she entered the lockers. “I have been given new orders for you. Its time you went back in the hunt.”

“Is it Jul ‘Mdama?” Raimundo asked.

“We have strong intel where one of his ships is” she explained, “we’ll send you in as a covert-ops team. You’ll take Booster Frames to avoid detection, and you’ll be getting an extra Spartan for this mission.”

“Another Spartan?” Evelyn asked.

“Ma’am…is that wise?” Anastasia asked

“I understand your concern Spartan Novara, but don’t worry, I’m not giving you some rookie” Sarah said, “No, this Spartan is a veteran, a II class”

They look gave a surprised look at that, only half of them ever worked or met a Spartan II.

“We’ll be heading out in 30. Gear up and meet me in the Docking bay” Sarah said. The four let out a “yes, ma’am” before heading out.

10 minutes after the order from Commander Palmer, Crimson was on their way to the s-deck to armor up. “You really think we’ll find Jul this time?” Eva asked

“Who knows” Dil replied, “The Intel only said it was one of his ships, so he might not even be on it.”

“Don’t jinx this, cripple.” Ana said, “We’re going to put that Hinge-head down once and for all.”

“I’ll agree with you on that” Rai added, “Jul must pay for his crimes.”

“Since you’re talking about Jul ‘Mdama, I’m guessing you four are Fireteam Crimson.”

The Spartan IVs turn to the scorch of the voice and saw another woman in under armor, she was at least twice as old as any of them, short brown hair, blue-gray eyes and at least a head taller than them. She smiled as she walked up to them, “I’ve seen your files, you are perhaps one of the best Team in the Spartan IVs”

Three of them looked at her with curiosity, but only one looked in surprise. “You seem to have us at a disadvantage, ma’am. who are you?” Dylan asked

“I’m your 5th in your mission. Commander Spartan-087. But you can call me-“

“Kelly?” Evelyn asked, interrupting her, “Oh my God, Kelly it IS you!” she rushes up to her.

“Oh…you know me?” Kelly asked, looking a bit surprised.

“I could never forget you.” Evelyn said, “You gave me some great advice 10 years ago.”  

It took a moment for Kelly to remember, but looking at her made her mind flash back to a similar face, “It can’t be…That metal ceremony....You’re Evelyn LaCoste…”

She nods, “I’m a Spartan now, but I’ve followed your advice and not let the armor define me as a Spartan.”

Kelly gave a smile “Wow…This is quite a surprise, I’d never though I’d see you again.”

“Eva…you never told us you met a Spartan II” Raimundo said.

“I remember you telling me about how you met some in Person, she was one of them?” Dylan asked.

“Yep, this is her. Kelly-087, the Fastest Spartan you’ll ever meet.” Evelyn said with a smile, “How are the others, especially Jorge and the Master Chief?”

This changed Kelly’s mood as her face now had a longful look, “They…they’re both missing in action” she said.

“Oh…” Eva said, feeling a bit awkward bringing it up, “I…I’m sorry…I hope you find them” she said

Kelly stayed quiet for a moment, Dylan whispered to Eva, “I don’t think its that kind of missing.”

This made her feel more awkward, “Um…”
 
“Evelyn, its alright. Really” Kelly said “Its war…these things happen.”

“I…I understand" Eva drew, "…still, I’m sorry. Jorge…you and John really changed thing around for me.”

“Well…I’m glad to see you again” Kelly said, “Heh, I had a feeling you might make it big in the UNSC, I just didn’t expect it to be this big.”

Eva smiled, then realized something, “I almost forgot to introduce you to my team. this is Raimundo…”

“It’s an honor to meet you” he said performing a light bow.

“…This is Dylan…” She continued

“A pleasure, really” he said holding his hand out, kelly took it in a light shake

“…and this is Anastasia” Evelyn finished.

“yeah, hi” Ana said, not sounding interested.

“Well, I can see who the lone wolf is” Kelly joked.

“That obvious huh?” Dil laughed, earning a snack upside the head from Ana.

Kelly smirked at that, “So, since we’ll be fighting together, I don’t suppose you mind me joining along, wanting to see the dynamic of Fireteam Crimson first hand before battle.”

“Mind?” Eva asked, “It’s be a privilege to have a great Spartan like you wanting to learn about us.”

“Hey Hot Pocket, you uh…have a little something on your nose” Anastasia mocked, earning a glare from Evelyn.

“Ok, enough” Kelly said with a light laugh, “If I was in Evelyn’s position, I’d probably react the same way.” She gives her a smile, giving Evelyn a triumphant look, feeling proud that Kelly didn’t mind her little fangirl moment.

“Well, we were on our way to Armor up” Dylan said, “I guess you’ll be joining us there as well.”

“Sounds good to me, and maybe we can exchange war stories on the way there” Kelly suggested.

With that the five spartans continued the route to the S-deck. Kelly observed the four, in some strange way, they were so much like her Blue Team. Not as discipline as her team perhaps but she expected that with the IVs, but they had similar skills…attitudes…and even the same luck Blue team has had. The sight to Evelyn did surprise her. Who would have thought that shy, star-struck little girl she met all those years ago would one day become a Spartan? She felt a bit of pride knowing that their meeting helped inspire her to be the Spartan she is today…she only wished John and Jorge were here to see her. But that was in the past, she had to focus on the now…and Right now, things looked a bit up.
